What's in your library?

part one of how book enrich our lives

· Books

When was the last time, you sat down in a comfy chair with a good book and read for the sheer pleasure of it? Books are a vital part of our lives, they expand our knowledge, take us to places we've never been and delight our imagination. Books are the silent friends that touch the deep wells of our soul. They make us laugh, cry, scream and even hate a character in a book that doesn't exist. So, it's no wonder we have such a love affair with books and collect so many of them. Friends, foes, lovers, and whatever else you can imagine, can be found in libraries, bookstores, on Amazon and maybe even on your own bookshelf. The kind of books we read and collect can reveal a lot about who we are from personal interests, worldviews, career choices, and even our beliefs.

My love affair with books began when I was a child, reading was my favorite thing to do and still is. I devour books like kids eat candy, one piece is never enough. I was a very imaginative child which made reading even more interesting. My love affair with books wasn't an accidental choice, it was more like a seed had planted in my soul. A seed that grew, into a passion for writing. I think every writer should have a collection of books they love from classics to poetry. You can call me old-fashioned but, I prefer having the actual book in my hand, so I can highlight phrases, make notes in the margin and have it on hand when I need it. Some girls dream of a walk-in closet in their bedroom, I dream of a library in mine. I love the feel of the pages between my fingers while I'm reading and seeing a bookcase filled with pages of knowledge, wisdom, wonder, and imagination.

Although, I love books, I have a limited amount of space in which to store them, so I keep the ones I need or use the most, like books on writing, research, favorite authors and my cookbooks. Reading is an essential part of being a writer and books are as vital as a pen and paper.Every writer needs books to inspire, challenged and stir the imagination beyond its boundaries. That’s why I read!
